Calis Beach
Just 5km from the centre of Fethiye is another popular beach resort, this is Calis beach. It is set on flat coastal land with a long fairly narrow acing beach;the shoreline is 6km long and is lined with a block paved promenade. You can reach Calis either by dolmus from Fethiye or by the popular water taxi that runs from the harbour in Fethiye every 30 mins.
This promenade is lined with restaurants and bars and here you will find food of a very high standard ranging from traditional Turkish food to the more interntional menus. The bonus here is that all these restaurants are overlooking the sea which provides a stunning backround whether day or evening,a view that cannot be beaten. Calis is renowned for its beautiful sunsets and people come from around the area at night to sit and watch as the sun sets over the sea.
The main shopping street leads off from the beach with the usual selection of shops, bars and clubs. There are also travel operators offering day trips and estate agents to find you your perfect holiday home. You can hire cars and jeeps and also the new popular quad bikes here.
At the far end of Calis beach you will find opportunities to try water sports such as wind surfing and the new and popular kite surfing, head for the Surf Café and have a go! This is an idyllic spot where you can eat, drink relax on sun loungers, listen to surfing music and either watch the surfers or join in, a lovely spot as there is always a cooling breeze.
On a Sunday there is a large market just outside the town which provides great opportunities for buying bargains and stocking up on fruit, veg and spices
Aqua park Calis has the only aqua park in the area
Dolphins there are frequent sightings of dolphins off this coast
Turtles The Caretta-Carretas turtles can be found in this area swimming off shore and coming up on to the beach to lay their eggs in the summer months.
